Notes & Reviews:

While Weinberg was establishing his reputation in Moscow with serious music, he also composed twenty-three charming miniatures to meet the demand for children's music in the Soviet Union. These were criticized for being too sophisticated, but like the 21 Easy Pieces may be intended for audiences of all ages. Allison Brewster Franzetti renders them beautifully.

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
Volume 3 of Russian composer Mieczyslaw Vainburg's piano music is given over to children's music and "simple" preludes. Written in the 1940s, these are lucid and concise, full of appealing melody and tonal. As with the children's pieces of Bartok and Villa-Lobos, they display a great deal of imagination and invention with few notes. Whether perky, lyrical, funereal, or impish, they make their point. Still, they are straightforward in conception. This is the kind of minimalism that makes the term meaningful. Allison Brewster Franzetti's clear, honest, expressively voiced pianism is ideal for this repertory. The recording, made at Keane University in New Jersey, is excellent.
