Ludwig Thuille was one of the leading operatic composers of the Munich School. Despite his lifelong friendship with Richard Strauss, Thuille remained a lesser-known Austrian composer during his short life and career.

This is the first recording of his songs by a male singer, and the superior quality of these performances may encourage more people to listen to the music. Trekel is an outstanding singer, and he is in fine voice here for this program of 22 songs. Höll is an admirable collaborator. The performances are so good that if you like lieder of Strauss or Wolf, you'll find this well worth hearing.
