Notes & Reviews:

Klaus Tennstedt was known for his interpretations of the German Romantic repertoire. This disc of Brahms is a rare treat. Symphony No. 3 was regularly programmed in concert by Tennstedt but never recorded commercially. These are both previously unreleased recordings. 'Under Tennstedt the London Philharmonic is shown to be a first-rate Brahms orchestra.' Richard Fairman, Financial Times2

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
The Tennstedt performances are both from concerts in Royal Festival Hall, the First from October 14, 1992, the Third from April 7, 1983. Tennstedt commands a big, broad sound, and his Brahms has weight and stability. This is pretty much the feeling I get with Tennstedt, particularly in the First Symphony. I was certain this would be the preferred recording.
