Notes & Reviews:
The first album; The Greatest Video Game Music, released in late 2011, featured classical renditions of the most famous and loved video game music, performed by London Philharmonic Orchestra. The album has been a great success, to date selling almost 100.000 units worldwide. This makes it the best selling video game music album of all time. The new album 'The Greatest Video Game Music 2', again recorded by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, features some new, exciting arrangements made by Andrew Skeet of some of the most beloved video game music tunes. The aim is to cater to an ever increasing fan base, and bring the classical audience and the gaming community closer together. In the spirit of this, 3 of the tracks on The Greatest Video Game Music 2 have been chosen by fans in a poll made by Gamer Magazines IGN and Kotaku. The polls got over 80 000 votes, and fans are excited to hear the new arrangements.
Notes & Reviews:Personnel: Andrew Skeet (programming).
Recording information: Angel Studios and Air Lyndhurst.
Over the years, video games have evolved from the simple platforming adventures of Mario and Luigi into cinematic experiences that match the big-budget blockbusters of the silver screen. Looking to take this idea one step further, the London Philharmonic Orchestra adapts some of the most recognizable songs from some of gaming's biggest franchises to the grandeur of the orchestra on The Greatest Video Game Music, Vol. 2. With a selection that spans games big and small as well as old and new, the breadth of songs covered here is certainly impressive. Whether it's the main theme of the SNES classic Chrono Trigger, "Never Forget/Peril" from Microsoft's epic Halo, or "Adventure" from the mind-bending and wildly innovative indie platformer Fez, this compilation has a little something for every gamer, no matter what his or her preferred genre might be. While those unfamiliar with the source material will certainly be able to appreciate the care and skill put into the scores for these games, this compilation will definitely find a good home with enthusiasts looking to add a little extra culture to their favorite pastime. ~ Gregory Heaney
