Album Summary

>Glanville-Hicks, Peggy : Sappho, opera
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Sappho, the last grand opera of Australian composer Peggy Glanville-Hicks (1912 - 90), was written in her stone cottage on the island of Mykonos in 1963. Polaski, who creates the role of the aging Sappho describes the opera as 'the kind of music that singers want to sing'.

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
The recording comes with a complete libretto, information about the cast, and short essays about the composer, the librettist, and the historical Sappho. It can be highly recommended, especially for anyone fascinated by an unstaged work. In listening to the opera more than once, each time I discovered new things to like. Whether it will be given a staged production and whether or not, it will prove a success.

Notes & Reviews:
