For his first solo album, cellist Vernon Regehr presents previously unrecorded, unaccompanied works of six composers, all written in the past decade. As the title of the album suggests, the works display a highly varied array of expressive and emotional landscapes, utilizing the instrument's broad range of tone color.

Matthew Whittall (b. 1975) is the only composer not living in or near Canada, having moved to Finland early on. His 1999 piece is made up of developed fragments from a string quartet. This piece survived. It is a set of variations held together in mood by a longing for home. Vincent Ho also writes about loneliness and desolation. His is a lively, imaginatively-scored piece. Clark Winslow Ross was born in Venezuela and now teaches in Newfoundland. His ten Lamentations of 2002 relate to Jeremiah and are played without pause. This is another piece full of feeling. Francois-Hugues Leclair (b. 1962) lives in Montreal. His 2010 Interludes were written to separate different pieces at an orchestral concert. They are the simplest pieces in structure. Kati Agocs was born in Windsor in 1975 and teaches at the New England Conservatory in Boston Her Promise (2004) relates both to her studies with Milton Babbitt at Juilliard and to a Lutheran chorale. It makes a good ending to a demanding program of varied and listenable music.
