Album Summary
Performer
Alexander Ghindin (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
Alexander Ghindin is one of the foremost pianists in Russia today. Ghindin has been a winner in several international competitions including the Queen Elizabeth (2nd prize) and Cleveland Piano Competition (1st prize). This recital includes Stravinsky's Petrouchka, Rachmaninov's passionate and wistful Morceaux de fantaisie and Tchaikovsky's Grande Sonate.
The Guardian, October 2012
At its best, the enthusiasm of Ghindin's playing is hard to resist, and Tchaikovsky's huge Sonata doesn't appear on disc so often that a performance with such sweep and grandeur can be easily ignored. Not everything comes off, but it's worth hearing when it does.
American Record Guide, March / April 2013
Ghindin's marvelous talents arrive on yet another label. He continues to specialize in the music of his native land, and has never failed to supply exciting, engaging performances. This is one of those recordings of a familiar work that you will return to many times because it does offer some different approaches that work quite well. Finally we have Rachmaninoff's first set of published solo piano pieces. These Morceaux still get performances and recordings. They make the youthful efforts far more satisfying. I see the opening 'Elegie' programmed by itself quite often. Another solid effort from one of the brightest stars in the world of pianists. The booklet notes have more on the artist than the music, but the recorded sound is quite good.
