As part of the legendary Wrecking Crew coterie of '60s studio musicians, guitarist Jerry Cole played on everything from the Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man" to the Beach Boys' "Wouldn't it Be Nice." With his own band, the Spacemen, he turned out tons of top-notch surf instrumentals like the ones found on this 1964 album. The sun-baked sound of the Ventures meets the rough-hewn rock of Duane Eddy here, on tracks that display both Cole's technical facility and his ability to generate pure, unfettered excitement.
