This is an odd little hit-or-miss surf set that includes four early Beach Boys tracks from before the group's contract with Capitol Records, along with four Jan & Dean cuts and seven organ and saxophone-led instrumental sides by the Deltas, who, as Jim Waller & the Deltas, recorded a single LP (most of which is represented here) called Surfin' Wild in 1963. Nothing here is exactly essential, but the Deltas' tracks may be new to even ardent surf music collectors. ~ Steve Leggett
