Notes & Reviews:

This second CD in the series featuring historical recordings by the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig contains recordings from 1929 to 1945, most of them published for the first time, including one of the earliest known recordings in the Large Hall of the Second Gewandhaus (the "Freischutz" Overture, recorded in 1929). The release also contains some extremely rare recordings in the New Theater Leipzig, which allow the listener to study the acoustics of this theater, which was destroyed in WWII. Special packaging features a beautiful hardcover book, slightly larger than the size of a DVD case, with texts in English and German.
