Notes & Reviews:

The tour starts in Uzbekistan, of which there are later glimpses. There is a visit to the historic Russian town of Suzdal and scenes from St Petersburg as well as from Ukraine. It would be impossible to avoid the Russian winter, which appears in various guises, providing entertainment for some and for others a seemingly enchanted snow-bound landscape.. The final release in the Naxos Seattle Collection pairs two youthful masterpieces. Extremely well received recordings when first issued on Delos.

Symphony No. 2 is very fine indeed, well-paced and with nice instrumental details. And the middle movements of Symphony No. 1 are quite effective as well. Schwarz... makes a good, solid case for Tchaikovsky's first two symphonies...

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
Have recommended it over the years for its two fine, well-balanced, solid all-around performances that can serve as excellent "baseline" accounts of both of these works in one's collection. The recorded sound is still crisp, spacious, and three-dimensional, and I continue to find the playing of the Seattle Symphony exceptionally polished and expressive. It is still worth having. I'm glad to have all three sets.
