Notes & Reviews:

This release celebrates the d'amore's versatility of sound by bringing together some of its finest Baroque repertoire. Beginning with the Ave Maris Stella, an ancient hymn dedicated to the Mother of God, the compilation takes the listener on an absorbing journey that combines the famous with the not so widely known.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
The point of this release, as presented in Losito's liner notes, is the effect produced by the sympathetic strings that vibrate with the ones played on to produce an extra resonance to the sound. This sound is brought out beautifully in the recording owing to Losito's smooth playing and his love of the echo effect. The rest of the program consists of music by Giuseppe Colombi (1635-94) written for various tunings, hence the titles, much shorter works by Angelo Morigi (1725-1801) and Pedro Lopes Nogueira, and a number of pieces by the famous Anonymous, who here turns in two considerable suites from Austria and Germany, the first accompanied by the bells of Santa Maria in the church where the recording was made. This sets up the distant tone of echoes that characterizes the sound of the performances. Losito plays with fine control and the music comes across in a very positive way. I much enjoyed this.
