Ernst (1812 - 65) was a friend of Berlioz, Chopin, Liszt, Mendelssohn, and for Joachim, "the greatest violinist I ever heard". The popular encore pieces by which Ernst is remembered today represent only a fraction of his output. Vol.3 in a series of 7 presenting all his works for the first time shows the full range of his creativity and charm.
