Jean-Louis Durand, a native of Bordeaux, is noted as an authority on French baroque keyboard music. He was a student of AndrT Marchal in organ, Marguerite Roesgen-Champion in harpsichord, and Maurice DuruflT in theory and composition. The winner of several important competitions, he was appointed organist of the church of St Maclou, Rouen, in 1967. He is credited with rediscovering in 1985 Michel Corrette's settings of Tenebrae Lessons (published in 1784).
