Notes & Reviews:

Despite the diverse cast of performers of the pieces, these works are connected by a similar type of expression, characteristic of the composer. They start with the instrumental music, determined by the number of performers - from two pianos and two sets of percussion - to a string orchestra, with the addition of a piano, and to sacred pieces with a choir.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Born in 1980, Michal Dobrzynski earned a doctorate from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. He teaches composition at the Music Academy in Bydgoszcz. This release collects some of his works composed from 2005 to 2010. The large Magnus Dominus, a setting of Psalm 48, is the earliest work. Dobrzynski juggles all these elements in the piece, and ends - marvelously - with a soft, quick-moving fragment in the lower strings. Formally and sonically, the piece is very striking and I find myself listening to it again and again. The Elegy IV. Multifonia (2010) initially combines dense, cluster-like harmonies with more lyrical, almost chant-like melody. On the basis of these three works, the disc is well worth repeated hearings. The performances and sound are excellent.
