The 250th anniversary of Italian composer Francesco Geminiani (1687 - 1762) has gone by largely unnoticed by other record labels, and it is with great pleasure that SOMM celebrates this important anniversary of a great composer, contemporary of and admired by Handel, with whom he sometimes performed. The 12 Sonatas, Op. 1 are largely premiere recordings; only the odd Sonata has been recorded before, largely lost in discs with multiple other repertoire and composers, so this is quite a spectacular coup!
