Notes & Reviews:

Three works by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, located somewhere between an 18th century's exalted elegance and a new era, when Chopin and Liszt convinced with their new virtuosity . Regarding the three Viennese virtuosos Christopher Hinterhuber, Walter Auer, and Martin Rummel, then you see them walking on the right side in putting the rarely performed composer on the map again.

American Record Guide, May/June 2013
This program is played by three fine musicians who clearly appreciate what the composer offers them. The present recording is a little richer in sound and a little more dramatic. Both recordings play the original cello line in the Finale of the sonata; some other recordings employ Friedrich Grutzmacher's more exciting revision of the cello part. I find the new Paladino the most sensitive, both in performance and in the balance between instruments. Hinterhuber does a good, sensitive interpretation of Op. 81. As for the cello sonata, Rummel plays it in a relaxed. He and Hinterhuber have a conversation in the finale that makes Hummel's original version work very well. If this program interests you, the performances are all excellent.
