Notes & Reviews:

Henry Purcell is regarded as the first great master of English Baroque music and his works find their best interpreters today in Andrew Parrott and his ensemble. Purcell's oeuvre features splendid works written for festive occasions at courts as well as dramatic operas and melancholy lute songs. This recording offers a representative cross-section of the composer's work, whose popularity remains unbroken.

EMI Classics continues its Red Line series with another collection of timeless classical pieces. This series features a wide variety of the most talented classical pieces of all time, written by such legendary artists as Bach, Beethoven, Wagner, Tchaikovsky and Mozart. In addition, each CD features some of the most popular classical performers such as the London Classical Players, Andre Parrot, Bruno Leonardo Gelber and Libor Pesek. Every CD in the Red Line series features some of the most defining pieces in musical history.

BBC Music Magazine, October 2013
The Theatre Music is a little stiff, but a tidy Bell Anthem, handsome masque from The Fairy Queen and an impeccable Close Thine Eyes make a persuasive Purcell taster.
