Notes & Reviews:

What music, one may wonder, once sounded in the three medieval market churches of St Nikolai, St Peter's, and St Mary's in the twin-city Berlin-Cölln, formerly part of the Brandenburg electorate and later of the Prussian kingdom. The present disc probes into this question, and revives music of the 16th and 17th centuries form Berlin's historic centre.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
This recording grows out of a book project titled Wie mit Vollen Ch÷ren - 500 Jahre Kirchenmusik in Berlins Historischer Mitte (How With a Full Chorus - 500 Years of Church Music in Berlin's Historic Center), edited by Ingeborg Allihn and Wilhelm Poeschel. Allihn notes that all of the German cantatas and Latin motets here were composed between 1582 and 1690 many by five cantors employed at the three city churches: St Mary's, St Peter's, and St Nikolai's. Johann Crnger (1598-1662) is well represented by a Magnificat and several cantatas. The program also includes German cantatas by Johann Georg Ebeling (1637-1702), Magnus Peter Henningsen (1655-1702), and Philipp Westphal (d. 1702). There is also Leonard Camerer's (d. 1584) motet 'Decantabat Populus Israel'. With their clearly articulated imitative Structures.
