- Steffen Schleiermacher (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
During the early 1960s, when the avant-garde was in the midst of the bitterly fought Serial-Aleatory Wars and electronic music and noise were embroiled in conflict, Mompou unwaveringly wrote music full of celestial clarity and absolute beauty.
The title Música Callada refers to a Spanish mystic of the sixteenth century. In the afterword Mompou wrote, "A voice that is silent while solitude itself becomes music." It is in vain that one seeks motivic and thematic development and ostentatious virtuosity in this cycle. Mixed in with pieces in a seemingly simple major-minor tonal harmony, unresolved dissonances and harsh chordal combinations repeatedly enrich the musical process.Notes & Reviews:
