Notes & Reviews:
This acclaimed Munich production offers a rare opportunity to hear a once popular opera seria from one of the outstanding composers of his day.
The Guardian, 21st February 2013
Iarbas gets the best aria in the entire opera...and Barna-Sabadus delivers it with ravishing control and finely honed technique; it's a real gem that marks the Romanian out as a name to watch...at Naxos's bargain price this is a rarity that's well worth investigating.
International Record Review, May 2013
[Holzhauser] has a strong upper register, her tone is smoothly projected and she phrases eloquently...The silken quality of Barna-Sabadus's voice helps him to ripple through long-breathed roulades...the singing is exquisite...Hofstetter brings all the elements of the work together with admirable results.

The orchestral playing of the Hofkapelle Mnnchen is lively and colourful, allowing the range of Hasse's orchestration to make its mark. The vocal parts are dominated by high voices... It says much for the performances of the major roles that distinctive personalities are conveyed, and both Theresa Holzhauser as Dido and the counter-tenor Flavio Ferri-Benedetto as Aeneas emerge with great credit.
