Notes & Reviews:

Royally yours!

Elegant, graceful, aristocratic, light and playful, Couperin's music is a reminder of the splendor and spirit of King Louis XIV's court. Internationally renowned harpsichordist and organist Luc Beauséjour, takes us to the heart of this sumptuous era, thanks to the elegance, virtuosity and expressiveness of his playing. Here is his rendition of the "Concerts Royaux" (Royal Concerts), from the undisputed master of the harpsichord, composer François Couperin (1668-1733).

These four portraits of an era, French suites, are each composed of five to seven pieces, creating moods and ambiances of many kinds. If King Louis the Great was captivated by their musicality filled with contrasts and tones, Baroque music lovers will be touched by the finesse and the authenticity of this interpretation.

In order to recreate, in all its refinement, this ethereal page in the history of music, Luc Beauséjour has surrounded himself with Baroque music virtuosos. Instrumentalists and soloists who are part of well-known music ensembles, and who keep communicating their passion for music all around the world. It is with the essence of that era in mind that Chantal Rémillard (violin), Margaret Little (viola de gamba), Grégoire Jae (Baroque flute), Matthew Jennejohn (Baroque oboe) and Mathieu Lussier (Bassoon) beautifully render the musicality found in common dances such as the Allemandes, gigues, menuets, courantes and sarabandes, by balancing aristocratic airs and uncommon movements in a delightful way, therefore demonstrating the magnificence of the Sun King Era.

This project, produced by Analekta founder and President François Mario Labbé, is one of over thirty completed works by Luc Beauséjour, as a soloist or as an artistic director, mainly for the label Analekta. Here is to another accomplishment that is not short on style!

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Here are Couperin's exquisite Concerts Royaux, performed by Clavecin en Concert, an ensemble of harpsichord, violin, viol, flute, oboe, and bassoon led by harpsichordist Luc Beausejour. The superb quality of the Concert Royaux, coupled with the fine performances they inspire in today's musicians prove that Couperin must have also truly relished his life as a chamber musician.
