The disc presents the sacred cantata Passio Ceciliae, which tells the story of the virginal Cecilia and details the events leading up to her martyrdom. Characteristics of Frisina's work can be found in the lush harmonization of the choral movement 'Psalm 45', which is undoubtedly a highlight of the recording.

Cecilia sings with the voice of an angel, so it's a good thing that Barbara Vignudelli was chosen to bring Frisina's lush and luminous solo writing to light. Frisina's melodies ascend nicely, and his spiritual message is delivered with authority. The choir and orchestra are caught in strong, clear sound; and the conductor keeps the spiritual energy flowing as the composer intended. I have seen this for sale for under $8, by the way, which makes the proposition even more attractive.
