Notes & Reviews:
This special collection was created in celebration of an exhibition at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels commissioned by musician and conductor William Christie and contemporary artist Michaël Borremans. Watteau, la leçon de musique, invites the listener to discover the music that is ever-present in the works of Antoine Watteau, an early eighteenth-century painter known for his fêtes galantes - paintings of the upper class in idealized natural settings, often playing or listening to music. Watteau was also friends with many musicians and was able to accurately capture their movements in his work. Featuring works by Lully, Vivaldi, Couperin and other contemporaries, this release invokes the unbreakable link between art and music. Performers include René Jacobs, William Christie, Bernarda Fink and Paul O'Dette.
