Notes & Reviews:

Organist, composer, author, critic, teacher - Charles-Marie Widor was a man of many talents and extremely successful in all of these endeavors throughout his life. His organ works, especially the magnificently virtuosic toccata from the fifth sonata continue to enjoy the greatest popularity.

On their latest release the musical discoverers of the Trio Parnassus introduce us to the superb quality of his chamber music, which today is almost entirely forgotten.

The young Widor's perfect intuition for the taste of his times opened the doors of the Parisian salons to him. The piano trio, his first published chamber composition, enables us to relive the enthusiasm of his late-nineteenth century public even today.

The Trio Parnassus is always ready to surprise us with unexpected discoveries. After Chausson, Godard, and Boëllmann, this is now the ensemble's fourth excursion into a practically unknown France, and with their powerful and virtuosic playing the three full-blooded musicians know what it takes to spread out before us fantastic new horizons "au goût français" far beyond any sort of musical tourism.

MusicWeb International, 6th June 2013
One senses that the well prepared players have a natural empathy for Widor's writing. Their high quality playing is especially spirited and expressive.

American Record Guide, July/August 2013
Rarely has the world been graced with a program of such impeccable musicianship. The Parnassus Trio has been together for nearly three decades, and their sense of each other's playing is outstanding. It's a delight to hear phrasing so intelligent and heartfelt. Combine that with MDG's audiophile sound (this is from their Gold series) and the result is a recording that should be in the library of every person on earth who has any love for humanity's highest achievements in the arts. A record like this is why we do what we do.
