This historical recording from 1945 (a few weeks prior to the end of World War II!) is a gem and could not be topped by any new recording. This is a delightful departure from CPO's customary acoustic and historical paths. The cast is dazzling: Vienna's then leading Mozart tenor Dermota sings the role of Amphitryon, Borsos is Jupiter, and Andergast is his wife Juno. Sosias is played by actor Liewehr.

The Overture sparkles with numerous appealing tunes: marches and waltzes a hint of burlesque and touching sentimentality...Altogether this performance, enthusiastically delivered by Andergast, Borsos et al will delight Lehár aficionados.
