Notes & Reviews:

These compelling "Re-inventions" comprise the last dream project of Stefano Scodanibbio (1956-2012). A strangely compelling unity from disparate sources: contrapunctus from Bach's Art of the Fugue, popular Mexican songs, Spanish guitar music - all heard in new transformations for string quartet. "What is intriguing about these arrangements is that they are indeed 'Re-inventions' as Stefano an ages to impinge his own personal style of writing, in harmonics , so that they are unmistalkably the work of his hand". (Irvine Arditti in the liner notes). Scodanibbio's writing for strings was informed by his extraordinary prowess as a player, a virtuoso bassists, interpreter, improviser and a composer whose own work was beyond the traditional avant-garde.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Reinventions was composed between 2004 and 2009 and apparently was intended to form a unit. That it does, since the combination of Bach and the Spanish and Mexican material is handled the same and yet creates sufficient variety and contrast. The players handle all the harmonics well, and the concept is quite original. Most of Scodanibbio's music is for his instrument, and it is fascinating to see what he can do with the rest of the string world. If you are ready for it, you may enjoy this. Certainly, there is nothing to dislike about it.
