Notes & Reviews:

The Dichterliebe cycle is completed by the Sieben Frü-he Lieder (Seven Early Songs) of Alban Berg. Dutch tenor Arnold Bezuyen has already appeared internationally on the stages of the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, at the Bayreuth Festival, the Covent Garden Opera and the Vienna State Opera; he made his MET debut in New York last season.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
The Dutch tenor Arnold Bezuyen has been making a name in opera houses with Wagnerian roles (Loge especially) and other tenor roles (Pinkerton, Turiddu). His voice - which falls between lyric and dramatic. The interpretation shows a depth of understanding that is quite engaging, and there are nice touches to be found here. Bezuyen makes particularly good use of hushed singing ("so muss ich weinen bitterlich" to conclude 'Wenn Ich in Deinen Augen Seh' and "mein nbergrosses weh" in 'H÷r' Ich das Liedchen Klingen' are examples). Margulis does a fine job with the extended preludes and postludes that capsulate their emotional thrust. Their recording of the Seven Early Songs of Alban Berg is the only one I can find sung by a male. Berg's dreamy transitional music - a swan song to romanticism and impressionism - is served better by a gentler voice. Here Bezuyen's voice tends to overwhelm the songs.
