Notes & Reviews:

Sound-magic and continuous transformation are key elements in the music of Danish composer Niels Rosing-Schow (b. 1954). This world premiere recording by the leading French ensemble TM+ presents five of Rosing-Schow's most profound compositions, all exploring the concept of time: time as motion, as process, as imprints or mapping - and time as space.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
These pieces are between 10 and 14 minutes long. I Giardini Dietro la Sitta (The Gardens behind the City, 2011), a rather active work with lots of dramatic moments, is scored for oboe, clarinet, harp, percussion, violin, viola, cello. In Vocabulary II (1986), mezzo soprano Raphaele Kennedy whispers, speaks, and sings pairs of contrasting words, each of which is looped and modified electronically. Sounds cascade from one instrument to another seamlessly. The rest of the works are a "time trilogy". In Spectre du Temps (2005) the sounds are both timbre spectrums and references to Gerard Grisey's 1996 spectral piece Vortex Temporum. Starting at 6:10, there is a fascinating section where a rapid staccato line is passed back and forth between piano and pizzicato viola. Remarkably explosive, high-pitched things happen at the piece's apex. It's quite a piece for flute, viola, and piano. The ensemble is reduced to flute and cell in Empreintes du Temps (Imprints of Time, 2006), which explores how time is perceived in music: metrically measured, seemingly frozen. Laurent Cuniot conducts the quintets and septet. He has been music director of the Nanterre, France-based chamber ensemble TM+ since its founding in 1986.
