Notes & Reviews:

Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki was a priest, church musician, and composer who lived and worked in Poland during the later part of the Baroque era. He was known as the "Polish Handel", however many of his composition were never published. These sacred rarities are performed on authentic period instruments.

The beautifully packaged disc appears to be the only one currently available devoted entirely to the music of Gorczycki. This is reason enough to consider getting a copy, given the quality of both the music and the performances by the Wratislavia Cantans Festival Orchestra and Choir (five voices strong on this recording) under Andrzej Kosenkiak. ... read more ...

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
The four choral works on this release give listeners an impression of the range of styles and genres used by the Polish master Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki (c. 1665-1734). The music is lovely. The program begins with the Rorate Mass, composed for four vocal parts in the stile antico of Palestrina. The emphasis here is on alternation of imitative and chordal textures; dissonance is carefully controlled. Illuxit Sol is a five-voice motet with strings and continuo. Laetatus Sum is a vocal concerto for four-part choir, pairs of violins and trumpets, and continuo. Using trumpets gives the work a festive sound. The concerto style persists also in the Completorium. The entire program is beautifully performed. The singers and violinists dominate the passage work. It's so nice to hear the natural trumpets in these concerto-like settings. The way they blend with violins is really gorgeous.
