Notes & Reviews:
Recorded at the Oregon Bach Festival. Renowned singers and ensembles. Re-release of the legendary reference recording. "Highly romantic sound, crystal clear, noble lines" (Fono Forum)
American Record Guide, July/August 2013
This work was a success from the outset, with early performances in Germany, England, and America. The performance is an excellent one, with fine soloists and first-rate choral forces. If you prefer something more objective, Andreas Schmidt, does an excellent job for Rilling. Beyond these there are good period performances from Spering and Herreweghe.
BBC Music Magazine, August 2013
Mendelssohn's less well-known oratorio on St Paul emerges strongly here, with vigorous choral singing and committed soloists.
Personnel: Juliane Banse (soprano); Michael Schade (tenor); Andreas Schmidt (bass voice).
Recording information: Dvorák-Saal, Rudolfinum, Prague, Czech Republic (11/17/1994-11/19/1994).
