Notes & Reviews:

Manuel Tomadin is Young ECHO Organist of the Year 2012, having won the ninth Internationaal Schnitger Orgelconcours during the Orgelfestival Holland in June 2011 in Alkmaar. He was born in 1977 but has already made recordings on various instruments of historical importance; he enjoys a high reputation among the organ fraternity.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Manuel Tomadin plays the early Weimar versions of these pieces. The earlier one played here is in five parts with double pedal and cantus firmus in the soprano. The other is in four parts with the cantus firmus in the tenor, and is the more direct forerunner of the Leipzig version. I would expect most listeners to prefer Bach's final thoughts in the Leipzig revisions. Of course, the Weimar versions are of historical interest, and it is worth noting that Olivier Vernet included both them. Tomadin fills out the program with two well-known major works: the Fantasia & Fugue in G minor (S 542) and the Passacaglia & Fugue in C minor (S 582). He inserts a trio movement in D minor (S 583) between the Fantasia and Fugue. Tomadin plays the Passacaglia & Fugue on full organ with mixtures and chorus reeds. For the most part, Tomadin favors deliberate tempos. The instrument is the relatively new organ by Francesco Zanin at the church of St Anthony in Padua. Double-pedal version of 'An Wasserflnssen Babylon' where he delivers the two pedal parts with greater fluency than in most other recordings I have heard.
