Notes & Reviews:

The 'transcriptions' and then 'reminiscences' of Verdi's music are (by and large) much more free both with their originals and with his own reputation, dating as they do from a maturity when he no longer felt the need to gratify any expectations of virtuoso brilliance.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
The Wagner transcriptions are quite enjoyable. Campanella brings out wonderful voicing with flawless pacing. Harmonic progressions are well timed, and accelerandos are tasteful, not aggressive or forced. Again, he eschews pyrotechnics for thoughtfulness and depth. The Tristan and Isolde shows his gift for dramatic power as he chooses a subdued approach. He begins at a very gradual pace, building to a satisfying close. The counter melodies are crafted. This is a very satisfying recording - the best of the new releases for Liszt's 200th birthday.
