Notes & Reviews:

A collection of early organ pieces predating and leading up to the compositions of J.S. Bach.

The Kloster Oelinghausen (in the town of Arnsberg, Westphalia), which was founded in 1174 by the order of the Premontarians, is one of the Meccas of the sacred art and music of the Sauerland. While the altar and the organ are a unique ensemble of baroque style in the interior of the abbey church, the chapel also houses several treasures of Gothic religious art such as the Virgin, called "Madonna of Cologne," which dates from the first decades of the 13th century. The music presented on this wonderful CD is in harmony with the beauty and the spirituality of this exceptional site.
