Notes & Reviews:

With this release, distinguished Korean pianist Klara Min brings her special touch a seventeen-piece survey of her favorite Mazurkas - a unique "composer genre" from Frédéric Chopin. Widely regarded as the most intimate, heartfelt, emotional, and personal music that the "poet of the piano" composed, the mazurkas fairly shine under Min's fingers. Her tone has been called "ravishing" and "out of this world" (American Record Guide), and her rare interpretive acumen, technical wizardry, and intuitive musicianship make Chopin's music a perfect fit.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
Min's approach to the Mazurkas shows good sense and considerable interpretive skill. Her use of rubato is tasteful and she plays with polished precision and control. The dynamic gradations are heart-stopping, such as the delicate pianissimo that follows the majestic forte opening of No. 20. Mazurka 37 is eloquent, and Min's lingering gestures on No. 44 strike the perfect. Thoughtfulness combines with refinement to produce one of the most effective recent collections of Mazurkas that I have heard. The sound is pristine.

Min presents recital of Chopin mazurkas
Klara Min introduces her considerable piano performance skill via the recent recording of seventeen mazurkas by Frederic Chopin. The booklet describes each track, with the unique color and mood of each mazurka characterized by the author. The recording is clear, the notes clearly articulated and expressive.

The listener immediately wants to know more about the artist and production. Who wrote the program notes describing the performance? Ms. Min’s debut recital occurred only recently, and her skill is welcome on the professional stage. Several competition prizes and performances are included, but the curious audience seeks more information on her education and background.

It is a surprise to observe that five key signatures are used repetitively in this playlist. Imagine using three different mazurka settings in C sharp minor—here they are!! This lovely collection will be welcome as an example providing students a pleasing interpretation of these works. It can also be used as background music for weddings, meetings, or parties. It is attractive; but more content and background would be valuable for the reader and audience.
