Notes & Reviews:

This is a live recording from the Munich Herkulessaal and the Philharmonie im Gasteig, recorded in 2010 and 2012, featuring young conductor, Andris Nelsons, on his first Dvorak CD.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
The first four were based on Czech folklore, the fifth - Heldenlied - a symphonic poem. It's basically a four-movement symphonic work lasting 20 minutes where the movements are played without pause. These recordings were made in Munich concerts in 2010 and 2012. The Bavarian Radio Symphony and Nelsons do a fine job with Dvorak and maintain a high level of intensity in both pieces. Quiet, slow sections are very soft and mysterious. Nelsons brings out lots of lovely detail, important for a piece as popular as this. The orchestra sounds terrific, with excellent contributions from winds and brass. The symphony has been recorded by nearly everybody, and more than 100 recordings are available at any one time. Our last Overview mentioned several that were top tier - Kondrashin, Masur, Macal, Neuman, Sawallisch, Belohlavek - and Nelsons belongs in that select company. These are excellent, exciting performances, delivered in superb sound.
