Notes & Reviews:

The second release from the Choir of King's College, Cambridge's own record label features conductor Stephen Cleobury leading the choir and the Academy of Ancient Music in a performance of Mozart's Requiem. In addition to the complete Sussmayr edition, the recording includes fascinating complete movement realizations by leading composers and musicologists including Michael Finnessy, Robert Levin and Duncan Druce. The recording's stellar line up of special guest soloists includes soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, mezzo Christine Rice, tenor James Gilchrist and bass Christopher Purves. The release also features a unique bonus audio documentary about Mozart's Requiem narrated by Elin Manahan Thomas, with short extracts of music interwoven into the commentary. The choir will be embarking on a major North American tour in April 2013 coinciding with the release.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
In this, the vaunted King's College Choir's second release on their new KGS label, we get a fresh and well-executed account of Mozart's ever-popular Requiem, in its most often heard version as completed by Mozart's amanuensis, FX Süssmayr, after certain contributions had been made by other composers (FJ Freystädtler, J Eybler) whom Mozart's widow Constanze had initially turned to. So CD 1, in addition to the entire work as completed by Süssmayr, contains five more tracks that present movements or added sections from several "completions". They are by C Richard F Maunder, Robert D Levin, Duncan Druce, and Michael Finnissy; further references are made to other efforts in the booklet and the documentary described below. All of them are very well executed and seem to achieve their objectives. The second disc contains a very well-done audio documentary about the Requiem's history, influences, and long-term reception written by Cliff Eisen, one of today's leading Mozart scholars. The quality of this account of the Süssmayr completion is superb. Soloists, boy choristers, and their men all deliver exemplary performances. While I generally prefer to hear this music from an all-adult choir, the wondrously vivid and detailed SA sound makes this rendition particularly appealing.
