Performer Composers

Notes & Reviews:

The great J.S Bach received his musical genes from a widespread dynasty of musical craftsmen, teachers, performers and composers bearing the Bach name. This CD features 11 composers from the Bach family, without including the more famous offspring of the master. Tomadin plays on the new organ, built to Baroque specifications, in the Melk Abbey Chapel in Austria.

American Record Guide, September/October 2013
The music here is generally very agreeable. Listeners who are genuinely interested will want to explore more deeply the organ works of the more readily available composers represented here, as in Thomas Trotter's recording of organ works by CPE or recordings of works by WF by Julia Brown and Friedhelm Flamme. The organ is a small two-manual instrument built in 1986 by Reil. It is in the sacristy of Melk Abbey in Austria, housed in historic cabinets of the baroque period. While the tone of the organ is generally pleasant. It is essentially a chamber organ. I expect it would be well suited to the organ sonatas of CPE Bach. Militello currently serves as principal organist of Florence Cathedral and is director of the Institute of Sacred Music in the Archdiocese of Florence. I find it engaging.
