Notes & Reviews:

Recorded in May 1986 at the Lukaskirche is Dresden, this is the only recording of Boris Blacher's oratorio, Der Grossinquisitor. Suppressed during WWII by the Nazis, he finished the work based on Dostoyevsky's "The Brothers Karamazov," in 1943. Siegmund Nimsgern gives an exemplary performance with the Dresdner Philharmonic.

This is generally a great and stirring work which commands the attention of the listener throughout. Brilliant Classics are to be congratulated in making it available at such a reasonable price - and so well presented, too.
