Notes & Reviews:

This recording brings together some of the finest works in the genre of lullabies and nocturnes written for violin and piano. The works share the related themes of music of dreams and sleep and showcase a considerable range of harmonic language, emotion and style.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
Some of these short pieces are originally for violin and piano, and some are transcriptions. The Nocturnes by Chopin (Op. 27:2 transcribed by Wilhelmj), John Field, and Franz Liszt are dreamy and expressive; and the Notturno, Op. 28:1, by Szymanowski is adventurous and stimulating. Alan Hovhaness's Oror is an early work that is exotic, otherworldly, and very beautiful; and Debussy's familiar Reverie is also lovely. Hays and Collins both serve on the faculty of Missouri State University. Hays is an excellent violinist.
