Notes & Reviews:

Mirella Freni is acknowledged as one of 20th century's most famous sopranos. This CD is a unique collection of her great roles such as Mimì (La Boheme), Liu (Turandot), Micaela (Carmen) and Violetta (La Traviata). With a few exceptions, these are exclusive recordings.

American Record Guide, November/December 2013
Fans of the soprano shouldn't hesitate to snap up Acanta's new package. The 1959 selections find Freni at her freshest. She would learn to sing with more expression and finesse in the coming years. The basic timbre of the voice remained astonishingly consistent. It had roundness and body, as well as a sweetness no Italian soprano of the 60s and 70s could match. She knew how to sing on the words and shape the musical line; and her Violetta is very touching. We have rated this Traviata fairly high in our opera overviews. Bonisolli is also a satisfactory partner for Freni in two duets, from Butterfly and Otello.
