Notes & Reviews:

Chopin and Debussy were two seekers of the absolute who, in their art distilled to the quintessence, succeeded in erasing all traces of their workmanship and their supreme compositional technique. The connections between them are as numerous as they are subtle, never obvious, yet so very profound. The achievement of Javier Perianes here is to have teased out the artistic thread linking two geniuses who soar high above their respective centuries.

American Record Guide, March/April 2014
We are given a DVD that complements the liner notes and CD well. It includes performances of 'Berceuse' and 'Claire de Lune', with many lavish shots of Perianes's fingers and face and interviews with him and musicologist Yvan Nommick, who also wrote the excellent liner notes. The interview is engaging, with remarks interposed between picturesque cinematography of Paris and Perianes. Along with some luscious descriptions, Perianes and Nommick supply fascinating information about harmonic and tonal relationships and the use of similar motives or devices. Subtitles in French, Spanish, Dutch, and English. In addition, this superb recording delivers a refreshing perspective on Debussy's piano works, much needed amidst a profusion of excellent Debussy and Chopin recordings.
