Notes & Reviews:

It has been claimed that Beethoven's three String Trios, op. 9, and Mozart's Divertimento, form the pinnacle of their genre, destined to be almost supplanted by the string quartet. These two works, Beethoven's first trio attempts, are, however, exceptionally fertile examples of the suite form and are far from 'old-fashioned'. This music needs a first-class chamber ensemble to be fully realized; the Trio Zimmermann is that ensemble.
