"This Romeo, filmed in Munich 1985 is set forth with great lucidity. Tempos are sensible and details are clear, and the choral work has some of the flair Davis could always bring out of massed voices. In many of the more exciting passages, the conductor secures precise, full-bodied orchestral p laying, but he keeps a stiff upper lip. In the 'Grand Feast at the Capulets', for instance, the music constantly grows louder and louder the Love Scene is lovely, polite, and coolly dispassionate. The final section of the score has all the grandeur and volume one could want, so the audience probably went home happy. The sound is quite good, and the camera is always unobtrusively aimed at the right place. If you want Berlioz's Romeo on video, this will do well enough." -Lucano
