Album Summary
Performer
Rudolf Buchbinder (Piano)
Notes & Reviews:
By happy chance, Rudolf Buchbinder's 60th birthday coincided with the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. In celebration of both, he presented a series of Mozart concertos with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the 2006 Wiener Festwochen. As he embarks on his seventh decade, Buchbinder can look back on a career of exceptional distinction - a career, indeed, which was exceptional from the outset. Buchbinder's capacity to fill halls, time and again and in many countries, is due entirely to the quality of his performances. The enthusiasm, like the size, of this particular audience speaks for itself. Buchbinder's intelligent virtuosity, superb ear for colour, and sixth sense for hitting upon the right tempo are suffused with strokes of spontaneity ranging from unexpected rubatos to tasteful, imaginative ornamentation. You could go on for hours citing all the newly minted phrases, insightful instrumental balances, and moments of pure chamber-music-like give and take.
