Notes & Reviews:
In 1999, along with the Palestinian literary scholar Edward Said, Daniel Barenboim founded the West-Eastern Divan Workshop, which every summer brings together young artists from Israel and the Arab countries to make music. The project is admired throughout the world since it combines a love of music with the need to promote better understanding between peoples, and what work could be better suited to this end than Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, celebrating as it does friendship and brotherhood?
