On June 4th, 2009, Daniel Barenboim and the Wiener Philharmoniker graced the Viennese public with a free openair concert on the grounds of Schonbrunn Palace. The impressive historical setting of Schonbrunn Palace and its beautiful baroque gardens, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site, form a unique backdrop for this Summer Night concert. Over 150,000 visitors were present in the audience for this momentous occasion. This DVD is also available on CD as DGG B001324002.

Gorgeous!
This DVD of the concert is a joy to hear and to watch. The venue is gorgeous, as is the music. I've never heard Eine Kleine Nachtmusic sound better. It's fascinating to see Mr. Barenboim conduct as the orchestra sees him - from the front, and witness the minimalism of his gestures, which amazingly convey so much musical feeling! It is enthralling.- surely the sound and visual delight are as good as being there, and perhaps better.
