Notes & Reviews:

A true celebration is to welcome the New Year with one of the best orchestras in the world. The Gala from Berlin 2003 presents the outstanding Berliner Philharmoniker, conducted by Sir Simon Rattle with works by Maurice Ravel and songs by George Gershwin. Grammy-award winning jazz singer, Dianne Reeves, solos in this wonderful cross-over approach that joins two musical worlds at the highest level.

Ritmo
Simon Rattle to dismiss 2003 at the Philharmonie Berlin offered a program of "merger" quite your style, with Gershwin as thread and the French touch of Ravel, Gershwin's colleague, and FaurT, Ravel teacher. Rattle The excuse serves to provide an evening at a middle ground with "his" Berlin Philharmonic and a great jazz voice like Diane Reeves. As expected, Gershwin is reached where the hotter times of the concert. A taste of Reeves and his band merges seamlessly with orchestral support that gives them an undisputed specialist as Rattle, even able to get your template colorful jazz solos. In the French the British director gets remarkable results in FaurT's Pavane, exposed with beautiful melodic line.

Opera News
Filmed in Berlin at a New Year's Eve gala in 2003, Ravel Meets Gershwin is, for the most part, a pops concert, and as these go, a superior one. Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic give ravishing accounts of the Fauré and Ravel pieces here ... The highlight of the concert is vocal soloist Dianne Reeves performing the Gershwin songs. Reeves is that rare bird, a jazz singer who gives as much weight to the words as to the music. Although she's a true song stylist who can riff and scat with the best of them, she also makes every lyric tell - not just by way of her diamond-clear diction but through heartfelt phrasing that shows she knows what she's singing about.
