Notes & Reviews:

It has long been a Philharmonic tradition at the New Year to present a program consisting of the lively and nostalgic music from the vast repertoire of the J. Strauss family and its contemporaries. These concerts delight the audiences in Vienna, and also enjoy international popularity through worldwide television broadcasts to over 50 countries. For the first time in '02 the concert was conducted by Ozawa, showing the engaging conductor at his most impishly playful.

Ritmo
Without using baton and waving his leonine gray hair, Japanese director (who, nine months later, would take care of the Vienna State Opera as head music) made a neat New Year Concert, in which only include excellent Overture to Die Fledermaus . The DVD includes "dual version" of four parts: The Beautiful Blue Danube (which we can contemplate with or without ballet), two polkas (whose choreographic alternative is provided by the Spanish Riding School of Vienna) and Perpetuum mobile Straussian, which can also listen while we see how the machines of the Mint printed euro notes and coin-relentlessly happy times those were!
