A hard-hitting new production by the Catalan collective La Fura dels Baus at the Teatro Real. Composed in the '30s by Weill and Brecht, this is a mordant satire on capitalism and the industrialization of a society in which the ultimate crime is not having money. In 20 scenes the authors tell the story of a city lost in the middle of a desert run by 3 thugs. Food, sex, gambling and violence rule supreme. The production by Ollé and Padrissa combines enormous inventiveness with joy, energy, and awe-inspiring ferocity.
